The New Year kicked off last week, as did the largest consumer show in the world – CES 2016. This event continues to grow and this year’s numbers provided the proof with 170,000+ attendees, 6,000 media participants and 3,800 exhibitors all making the trek to Las Vegas.
For the past 49 years, CES has been referred to as the Consumer Electronics Show; however, this show is truly the Consumer “Experience” Show. The “E” has definitely evolved from “electronics” to “experience” as that is what this show is really all about.

This year there were plenty of super-cool gadgets, futuristic cars, smart home appliances, giant display screens, digital health devices, 3D printing, wearable tech, drones, robots and more ready to take on just about any task. There was, of course, the experience to participate in interactive demos and live events and to try out virtual reality headsets for your own virtual experience. Virtual reality was finally a “reality” this year with pre-orders for the Oculus Rift headset in full demand.
My colleague Brianna Swales shared some of the cool items in her CES blog post last week. As for me, being a mom of two active teenagers, I can’t wait for the Laundroid robot that folds laundry! As the CES attendees experienced lots of shiny new computer gadgets, what’s powering this latest technology mattered as well. Chip companies like Intel and Nvidia didn’t disappoint by introducing the latest in the power of their chips and what’s inside.
Winners weren’t only in the casinos last week; they could also be found on the CES show floor. The media outlets kept us updated with the show winners and best of CES roundups. For example, The Verge staff issued its CES awards, PC Magazine provided its best of CES 2016 as well as Engadget.
