Inside Vantage’s Tech PR Team: Meet Sydney Holmquist

Sydney Holmquist

Wonder what Vantage PR’s Account Coordinator Sydney Holmquist is like outside of work? Find out in the post of our Inside Vantage’s Tech PR Team series!

1) If you weren’t in the PR industry, what other career path would you have in mind?

Well before I got my degree in PR and ended up with my AMAZING job here at Vantage I used to work as a swim instructor for a swim school back at home. I was a supervisor both in the office as well as on the pool deck so I did a little bit of everything which always kept it exciting. I absolutely loved the kids, knowing that I was teaching them such an important skill and seeing them succeed was incredibly rewarding plus they were adorable! So if I hadn’t found my calling in PR I would’ve stayed in my one-piece splashin’ around with the kids.

2) Did you know early on in your life that you wanted to pursue PR? Syd

Actually no, but I can’t picture myself doing anything else now! But, like many college students, I started off my freshman year with no idea of what I wanted to get a degree in and do the rest of my life. Then in my junior year of college I decided to take an intro to PR class and ended up having an incredible professor that made me fall in love with PR. She showed so much enthusiasm and I decided about a week in that I was going to pursue a career in PR – and that’s exactly what I did!

3) If you had to choose an actor/actress to be you in a movie based on your life, who would it be?

Oh jeez, that’s a tough one. But I think that Jennifer Lawrence would have to be my choice. She is so funny and down to earth and I’m pretty sure that if I was in Hollywood I would have a lot of the same reactions to situations as she does. So I would definitely be cool with her representing me in a feature film about me!

4) What is the best concert that you’ve ever been to?

I went to the Jason Aldean/Luke Bryan concert a few years ago and it was by far the best concert I’ve ever been to. I am a huge country fan and those two are both incredible performers. I’ve actually seen them a few times but the first time I went was my favorite.

5) What TV shows are you currently watching? Any recommendations?

Scandal! My mom records it on the DVR and then when I come home for a weekend to visit her and my Dad we get some red wine, just like Olivia Pope, and binge watch all of the episodes that are saved. I don’t really watch a lot of TV in general but Scandal is absolutely my favorite things on TV right now.

 6) Any guilty pleasures?

Hmm, not really. But sometimes I can get sucked into watching horrible reality TV shows with my roommate when she has them on. I also on occasion will read one of those cheesy romance novels and love it, I’m a hopeless romantic what can I say?

7) Who would you say the biggest role model in your life is?

Well I actually have two, my Mom and Dad. They have set such an amazing example for me and my little brother as we’ve grown up and I am so lucky to be a part of such an awesome family. They have provided me with constant support in everything I do as I’ve grown up and I know that I would not be who I am today if it weren’t for them. I’m super close with my family and I love the relationship I have with them, wouldn’t trade it for anything!

 8) Pizza is obviously a huge part of your life (rightfully so), what do you think is the perfect pizza? Thickness in crust, consistency and flavor of tomato sauce (spicier, sweeter), preference of cheese, and topping(s) of choice.

I. Love. Pizza. Anytime of day, any kind (unless it has pineapple on it), and pretty much from anywhere. My absolute favorite pizza is the holy shiitake pie from Mellow Mushroom. But honestly thin crust or thick, tomato based or not and any array of cheeses and toppings and I will be one happy girl – just don’t ask me to share it haha!

9) What’s your drink of choice for washing down this perfect pizza?

I’m actually pretty weird about drinking anything when I eat. I typically don’t have a drink when I eat meals, I’ve always been like that. But if I had to pick, a nice cold beer is always an excellent pairing or just ice water works for me.

10) You have 1 week to live, what could we expect for you to be doing in this last week?

Well I would definitely be with my friends and family the whole time. But ideally, I would be skiing. I’ve been out to Colorado a few times to ski and love it! Skiing is one of my favorite things to do and unfortunately it doesn’t snow in Florida very often.
