Matthew Stallknecht: Account Executive - Orlando Office
- Tell us three fun facts about yourself.
Well, the main thing I always tell people when I'm asked this question is that I lived in 4 different states before the age of 6. My dad was an executive for Kellogg’s Cereal Company when I was younger, so we moved around a lot. We lived in Georgia, Michigan, Illinois and Pennsylvania all before my sixth birthday. I then added New York to the list when we moved there at age 14. Florida is state number six for me!
As for other fun stuff about me, I’m a black belt in Tang Soo Do karate, although I’m not sure if it would ever do me much good nowadays since I haven’t actively practiced since I was 14.
Lastly, I am a sports nerd, to the point where I will often find myself watching incredibly niche sports leagues just for fun. Australian V8 Supercar Racing and Canadian football probably don’t interest many Americans, but I’m all in on anything involving competitiveness. The lesser-known, the better.
- What made you go into PR and what do you love most about it?
I originally was a journalism major and had dreams of being a national motorsports writer covering the NASCAR and IndyCar beats, as motorsports is probably my biggest passion in life. Eventually, I realized I enjoyed the idea of advocating for sports organizations more than I did writing about them. That eventually led me to an interest in sports PR, which became an interest in PR in general, which led me to where I am now in the tech PR world.
As for what I love the most about it, I like how PR is such an integral part of every business’s growth process. It's fun to see how top-notch PR campaigns have the power to make an unknown organization incredibly well-known in a short period of time, which ultimately leads to enterprise-level growth. That is an exciting process to be a part of.
- What made you select PAN? Initial impressions so far?
I just recently finished my master’s degree in PR from Syracuse University this past spring, and ironically enough, it was a spring semester class taught by PAN’s own Phil Nardone (with trusted help from Adam Novak and Jon Gregalis!) that brought the agency to my attention.
I was originally looking for opportunities at agencies in the southern U.S. out of a love for that area of the country and a desire for better weather (Syracuse, NY is the coldest place in the Milky Way Galaxy, I think), so when I found out PAN had an office in Orlando, it was just the right fit, and I’m loving the experience thus far.
- Where can we find you on the weekends?
I’m probably doing one of three things: travelling to a sporting event, watching a sporting event on TV, or hanging with friends (whom I’m probably discussing or watching sports with). Outside of that, I enjoy being active, I love to work out, travel to new places, that sort of thing.
- Fill in the blanks – My favorite tv show of all time is Seinfeld!
