‘American Idol’: Is Nicki Minaj-Mariah Carey feud a publicity stunt?

Former “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler dismisses the feuding between new “Idol” judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj as a publicity stunt.

Joy Behar seconded that view Monday on “The View.” “We’re talking about it. It’s working,” Behar said.

Barbara Walters disagreed. “This is not pleasant for either woman,” Walters said. “It makes you want to see the judges, but supposedly you want to see the contestants. That’s what the show is about.”

Walters wondered if ”The View” might be more popular if the panelists disliked one another privately.

“I don’t think it worked the last time,” Whoopi Goldberg said, drawing the studio audience’s laughter. She obviously was referring to Rosie O’Donnell.

Behar suggested they move on to another topic, which they did.
