You’ve Finally Made it to Jenkins World, Now What?

Chris DeLisi

The wait is over. Jenkins World 2016 has finally arrived, and you are now a part of the largest gathering of Jenkins users in history. So, now what? This year, there will be more than 50 sessions being hosted by Jenkins evangelists, C-level executives and experts from around the world that want to help you make the most out of your Jenkins World experience. While it is nearly impossible to go to every single presentation, PAN wanted to highlight some particularly exciting breakout sessions and workshops that are open to all attendees.

If you truly wish to go “All in for DevOps” at Jenkins World, here are some expert sessions you simply can’t miss:

CD & DevOps Maturity Workshop for Managers                                               Day 1 - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Hosted by DevOps Evangelist Brian Dawson, it will feature a group discussion and a hands-on lab exercise. Brian will explore the simple, lightweight model for measuring organizational DevOps maturity and will then apply the model to the attendees’ organizations, enabling them to measure their own DevOps maturity and identify practical steps to facilitate a transformation to enterprise CD and DevOps. This session will be of particular interest to managers who want to get a better sense of how to break into the world of DevOps.

CloudBees Product Update                                                                                      Day 2 – 11:30AM – 12:15 PM

What better way to learn about Jenkins 2.0 than from the creator himself? Kohsuke Kawaguchi, CTO of CloudBees and Creator of Jenkins, will co-host a demo with Harpreet Singh, CloudBees VP of Product Management, showcasing the exciting work that covers the spectrum of Jenkins users, from developers to Jenkins administrators. For developers, the session covers Jenkins 2.0 - The Pipeline plugin. From an administrator’s perspective, the presenters will demonstrate the functionality in the CloudBees Jenkins Platform - Private SaaS Edition that automatically sets up a Jenkins cloud in minutes.

Continuous Delivery of Infrastructure with Jenkins                                         Day 2 - 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM

This is a true “meat and potatoes” demo led by one of the most veteran members of the Jenkins community and CloudBees Community Concierge , R. Tyler Croy. Deploying infrastructure can be difficult and rapidly deploying infrastructure is even harder. Tyler will cover some of the basics of setting up delivery pipelines for infrastructure with Jenkins. He will show users how to build a continuous delivery pipeline with Jenkins to test, stage and deploy infrastructure code to production. By the end, users should be able to show their teams how to reduce error rate and time it takes to deploy a configuration change to production in order to save money and time spent fixing problems.

Performance Testing in Continuous Delivery Pipelines                                 Day 3 - 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM

We are excited to hear PAN client Blazemeter’s CEO and Founder, Alon Girmonsky, host a lecture on using Jenkins 2.0-based continuous delivery workflow to highlight patterns as well as expert practices for gauging performance at every key stage of development from source code to production. As the CEO, Alon will be able to discuss his experience using different strategies for testing, benchmarking, investigating and optimizing the full stack of an application.
